I signed up for Wizard’s D&D Insider access yesterday and I’m still unable to get to it – http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1205195&page=2
I can’t wait for the content and truth be told I’m getting sold over on 4e. It’s different but it seems to be designed well and enforces a specific style of play. That’s not really a bad thing though. I’ll continue posting creations as I go (and also working on my Savage Worlds stuff).
I’ve been poking around the Wizards site and the 4e character builder. I made my first character D&D 4e Character - Obryn (210) and I’ve got to say the DDI Character Builder utility made it a heck of alot easier. While the volume of choices is still overwhelming it was fun to make a PC.
With my role in the D&D MeetUp group it’s going to behoove me to get up to speed on 4e. Now combining this rather robust combat game with a good story. That’s something that has yet to be done by Wizards. Perhaps I’ll have to go check out the Goodman Games stuff.

This entire discussion is why I don’t like 4e. It smacks too much of every time a new release for Magic the Gathering or a patch for World of Warcraft comes out. Each character class or as I refer to them now as “builds” is the focus of the game and the majority of threads surround how to best build the character or how each power can be combo’d for optimum DPS.
While it’s fun to play it’s far too constraining for my play style.
Here’s a work in progress of a battlemap I’m working on to kick-off a 4e campaign. I’ve got to add some more elements in the middle including a road or trail leading up to the broken gates.
I’ll add a staircase somewhere leading down to the next level soon as well.
The map will print out in pdf format for a total of 4 pages. Make sure to turn off any scaling in the print options.
Trim the right white edges off pages 1 and 2
Trim the bottom white edge off of page 1
Trim the top white edge off of page 3
Tape together and voila a standard size encounter for 4e or a small map for any other game including Savage Worlds. I’ll also post a hex version for HERO or GURPS.

I’ll admit it. I’ve loved Scarred Lands from the day it was released. Their Creature Collection Non-Revised (CC) was a thing of beauty, flawed though it was. Each monster was lovingly created and each background blurb provided a plethora of background and insight into what it was. Being that it was released prior the 3.0 Monster Manual it lacked some information and made some incorrect assumptions as to how the system worked.
The in-depth presentation of the CC is almost an exact opposite of the current 4e Monster Manual (MM). This in-and-of-itself is not a bad thing. The MM is meant to be a catalog of things to slay with little, if any background. It allows for the DM to pick and choose his/her background info. On-the-other-hand the CC has detailed info on how the critter interacts with it’s environment and how/why it was created. Most are remnants of the Titan’s War that were left to roam the world after their Titan or God masters fell in the apocalypse. For those that have read any of the Point’s of Light background presented by WotC – does that previous background sound familiar?
I’ll be dedicating posts marked with the Scarred Lands tag so you can follow along.
