Well – another safe (not necessarily successful) deer hunting season kicked off this last weekend in Wisconsin.  How does this relate to gaming?  Well, it’s truly a personal experience.  I’ve been deer hunting with my father and two other gentlemen for the last 25 years.  In that time we’ve lived out of a 1950’s silver-bullet style trailer and in recent years, after my folks retired to this 40 acre parcel of land, a nice 3 bedroom ranch with plumbing…yes the old trailer did not have plumbing – it had a stylish green outhouse.

During those 25 years of hunting I’ve read alot of RPG’s out in the woods.  Trust me, I can get alot of reading done and I’ve imagined as many trolls, goblins and other beasties approaching my tree stand as I have the elusive white-tail deer.  Being out in the open and elements just makes me want to imagine a solitary tower standing on top of the end of the ridge that terminates on our property.  A trout creek meanders through the land as well making a perfect place where a farmer or small village would exist.  I used to run through the woods fleeing from imaginary warlords and wizards.

Writing this has sparked the idea for my own bildungsroman or monomyth adventure.
